How long will your digital prints last?
All of the paper products used in producing the prints are acid-free and ph neutral. The inks are pigments with exceptional
standards of longevity. In fact, lab testing has shown these
materials provide a print life exceeding that of silver-halide
black and white RC prints. Each print is guaranteed against
any signs of image degradation (i.e. fading or discoloration)
for a minimum of 100 years when displayed indoors either under
glass or away from direct sources of sunlight and pollutants.
How soon can I get my prints?
Jobs are processed on a first-come first-served basis so
it varies. We take great care in our work and have a quality
control process to insure the highest quality prints. During
periods of high volume it may take up to 12 working days to
produce the initial proof. But it is often a much shorter
turnaround time. You’ll get a pick up/ship date for your job
at the time of your order.
Do you collect sales tax?
New York state residents will be charged a sales tax of 8.375%
on all print and/or scan orders. If you live outside of New York
state you are responsible for paying any applicable sales tax.
If you live in New York state and have tax exempt status or a
resale certificate, please present the appropriate documentation
at the time of your first order. We are required by law to have
this information on file in order to waive the sales tax.
Do galleries accept digital prints?
We have printed for exhibits in galleries throughout the country,
and as far away as Japan. In recent years print technology
and imaging materials have made great strides in both permanence
and image quality. As standards and practices develop in digital
printmaking, curators are embracing digital prints as a medium
with exciting potential. We are happy to provide longevity
data for the materials we use.
Will reprints match my first print?
Our monitors and printers are calibrated regularly to insure
consistent output. We can often compensate for small variations
in paper stock from batch to batch. What this means is you
can expect a consistency in your prints whether you order
them at the same time or months apart. Having said that, we
closely monitor advances in the industry and when technologies
become available that offer significant benefits to our clients
we upgrade materials as necessary. When this does occur, we
notify our clients with enough time to complete their editions
with the current materials if they so choose.
Do you offer different hues of b/w?
With our monochrome ink sets we can produce prints in either a selenium (neutral) or sepia toned hue. Our color ink set printers allow you to have any tint or even split tone of b/w that you desire. You can either tint the image yourself in RGB mode or talk to us about using one of our custom tints or split tones.
What are my paper choices?
We're overly fussy about paper quality and stock a very small selection of the finest cotton rag and alpha cellulose papers available for pigment ink printing. We also offer a semi gloss paper. Our choices range from a smooth printing surface to a heavy watercolor texture, are acid-free,
ph neutral and contain no image degrading impurities. They produce consistent
results and a wide tonal range. If you already have a particular paper in mind,
we will do our best to accommodate you. However, depending on the size
of the image, total print order and the choice of paper, additional
setup charges may apply so please contact us for details.
What’s a B.A.T.?
The bon á tirer is a proof print which you
sign authorizing us to proceed with a final print. It remains
in the studio and is used as a guide to maintain consistency
in future prints.
Do I get a scan back with my print?
With full service jobs we scan your film
or flat art and optimize it specifically for output on our
print system. The edited scan remains property of the studio
and you are provided with a print. Should you wish to receive
the edited scan, additional scan and retrieval fees will apply
and the image will be deleted from our archives. We will provide
reduced sized jpegs of your images optimized for the web free
of charge.
How do I take care of and display my print?
All works on paper require at least a modicum
of care and handling. Hands should be clean and dry when handling
a print, or simply use disposable cotton gloves. When framing
your work, use acid-free mat boards and always mount so that
the print does not directly contact the glass. If a print
is to be displayed without glass, minimize atmospheric elements
like pollution from an open window or cigarette smoke. Finally,
when storing multiple prints, always interleave each one with
acid-free tissue paper to prevent scratching the paper surface.
